Phil Desforges is a very talented artist – a photographer, filmmaker and AI Artist and I’ve been following him on Twitter @storybyphil for sometime. He shared a wonderful tweet where he shares using natural language to create what some might think is an impossible shot to get out of Midjourney AI.

In this post I will explore the process she shared in the tweet and further do my own experiment with his shared prompts.

First Image

Phil describes the first thing is creating and refining the prompt to create the main subject. In the tweet the prompt shared is: fashion photo of a young woman centered straight shot photo shot on Agfa Vista 400 of a woman dressed in Gucci, wearing an intricate royal blue dress, natural lighting –seed 1 –ar 16:9 –v 5

Second Image

Phil then uses very elaborate natural language to describe the scene. The prompt shared in the twitter thread was: editorial photo featured in Dwell The entrance to the manor opens up to an expansive room, adorned with white and gold accents that exude Luxury and sophistication. The walls are painted a creamy white, providing a subtle contrast to the intricate details that decorate the space. The main focal point of the room is a towering chandelier that hangs from the high ceiling. The chandelier is a masterpiece of craftsmanship, featuring delicate gold details and sparkling crystals that reflect the light and cast a glittering glow throughout the room. The floor is made of polished marble, which gleams in the sunlight and adds to the overall sense of grandeur and elegance. The marble is adorned with intricate gold accents that form a pattern around the edges of the room, creating a stunning visual effect. A grand staircase leads up to the second floor of the manor, also made of the same white stone and trimmed with gold accents. Phil then tries to blend the two generated images using the /blend function in Midjourney but unfortunately the results are not very pleasing and therefore another approach is tried and tested.

Final Merge

Phil then uses the image based prompt where you supply to Midjourney the images and the extended prompt so Midjourney can produce the result. This technique does not do a photoshop like composite image but its more using the image(s) and text to create the resulting image.

What if?

Now you might be wondering, what if I take the final merge prompt without the previously generated images what will happen. What if I don’t use the image prompt at all and try only the text prompt. Well you do get a good enough result but its not quite the same, having the first and second image in the prompt guides Midjourney in how to compose the image along with the text part of the prompt.

Using this technique shared by Phil, I came up with some of my own prompts to try and create some variations. Using the two below individual images and my prompt I was able to create the final result you see below.

Summary

Really fun playing around with this concept shared by @storybyphil and using large natural language based prompts, then combining them using the Image Prompt technique. Love where the open community around AI Art is going and particularly on Twitter, I don’t care what others say but AI community is truly active and sharing on this platform.
